History:
The Cleveland Foundation Summer Internship Program was established in 1999 as a response to the numerous requests from college students and graduates wanting to work with the Cleveland Foundation in the summer.
The foundation decided to develop the talents of those college students by placing them at local nonprofits, where they could complete short-term projects and give the organizations much needed assistance.
In June 1999, 12 students were placed at various organizations. As the demand for summer interns has grown over the years, the number of students applying for summer internship positions has increased. By March 2009, the Cleveland Foundation received a record-breaking 245 applications for 16 positions.
Since that first group of students 10 years ago, a grand total of 157 interns have been placed through the summer internship program.
