INTER|URBAN: A public art experience

Ride the public transit system from Cleveland’s airport to its downtown and witness INTER|URBAN, one of the world’s largest outdoor public art experiences that connects transit riders to some of the most important and difficult issues facing our society.

INTER|URBAN is a city-wide initiative led by LAND Studio, the City of Cleveland, the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (RTA), Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA), the Anisfield-Wolf Book Awards, and the Cleveland Foundation.

Public art installations along the transit line are inspired by books that have won the celebrated Anisfield-Wolf Book Awards. Administered by the Cleveland Foundation, it is the only juried prize (81 years in the making!) in the nation to recognize books that confront racism and explore diversity, equity and social justice amid rich human culture.

Meet the 2016 Anisfield-Wolf winners here, and get a peek at the ceremony that capped off the first-ever Cleveland Book Week.

You can experience it all over at the brand new website www.interurban-cle.com that tells the stories behind the artwork that RTA Red Line riders have enjoyed since the debut this summer. View more photos of each exhibit, and learn more about the inspiration behind the artwork. You can also locate artwork via an interactive map, or take a virtual ride by watching this video.

We are proud to have contributed to INTER|URBAN, one example of our work to support public art initiatives to create awareness, collaboration and meaningful dialogue about the complex issues of race, equity and inclusion.
