Cleveland Book Week Continues!

It’s Cleveland Book Week (CBW), which means there’s a great lineup of literary and literacy-focused events happening now through Saturday! CBW events celebrate Anisfield-Wolf Book Award winners past and present, and many programs are free to attend. You can find the full line-up of #CBW2017 events here. If you haven’t already made plans to attend CBW, we have a few suggestions for you:  

INTER|URBAN: Public Transit Meets Public Art

Tuesday, Sept. 5 – Friday, Sept. 8

Selected RTA Rapid Stations

In conjunction with LAND studio and Twelve Literary and Performative Arts, local artists will perform Anisfield-Wolf-inspired poetry and spoken word pieces at RTA stations throughout Cleveland. Performances will take place each day during the morning and evening rush at the following locations:

  • 9/6, 3:30 – 5:30 p.m.: Windermere, Tower City, W. 98th
  • 9/7, 7:30 – 9:30 a.m.: Windermere, Little Italy, W. 25th
  • 9/7, 3:30 – 5:30 p.m.: Shaker Square, E. 55th, Airport
  • 9/8, 7:30 – 9:30 a.m.: E. 55th
  • 9/8, 3:30 – 5:30 p.m.: Shaker Square, Cedar, Tower City

Wednesday, Sept. 6 | 4:30 p.m.

Baker-Nord Center, Case Western Reserve University

Join 2017 Anisfield-Wolf fiction winner Peter Ho Davies, in conversation with Case Western Reserve University’s Thrity Umrigar and Anisfield-Wolf Scholar Lisa Nielson, for a discussion about Davie’s ground-breaking work The Fortunes, a novel “examining the burdens, limitations and absurdity of Asian stereotypes.” This event is FREE, but registration is recommended. Join a live audience and bring your questions for breakout novelist Karan Mahajan as he discusses his incendiary second book, 2017 Anisfield-Wolf fiction winner The Association of Small Bombs, with Professional Book Nerds podcast hosts and OverDrive staff librarians Jill Grunenwald and Adam Sockel. The New York Times named The Association of Small Bombs one of the ten best books of 2016. This event is FREE, but registration is recommended. Register here.

Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland

BOUND unites artists and indie publishers whose work is a platform for wide ranging topics from pop culture, poetry, and politics to the stories of traditionally marginalized voices. BOUND will include pop-up programs such as DIY demos, readings and book signings, as well as live music and DJ sets. This event is FREE and registration is not required. Learn more here.

Saturday, Sept. 9 | 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

ADMISSION: $1 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., free after 3 p.m. Kids under 17 are always free.

This September, the Flea goes literary in support of Cleveland Book Week. Look for a pop-up bookshop and literary cafe featuring local authors and book sellers, where you can sample coffee and cocktails while browsing rare books and first editions and mingling with some of Cleveland’s authors.
