A statement from the Cleveland Foundation on gun violence in America

The Cleveland Foundation is appalled by the continuous spate of mass shootings and gun violence devastating communities across our country. To our political leadership: the second amendment is not incompatible with sensible gun control laws that would ultimately help save America’s children and residents – your constituents – from such horrific attacks and loss of life. While other countries around the world have proven that it’s possible to significantly reduce gun violence through legal reforms, America stands out from its peers on one variable: our exceptionally inadequate gun laws. The Cleveland Foundation urges and encourages our political leadership to unite and pass sensible, solution-based legislation that will help address the gun violence and hate that plague our nation.

While we are hopeful that more can be done to prevent these tragedies from occurring in the future, we must also support the victims of gun violence today.
