Purpose: To provide scholarship support for children of police officers, firefighters, and paramedics (first responders) in the cities of Bay Village, North Olmsted, Westlake, Lakewood, Rocky River, and Fairview Park. Applicants must be pursuing vocational or technical training or an undergraduate college degree at an accredited, Pell-eligible educational institution. Scholarship awards are made on an evaluation of the student’s financial needs, academic achievement, involvement in school and community activities, and work experience.
About the program: The Northwest Emergency Team Fund of the Cleveland Foundation provides scholarships and financial assistance to graduating and graduated students pursuing four-year baccalaureate or two-year associate degrees at institutions of higher learning, or vocational training leading to certification. The scholarship or financial assistance given shall be restricted to full-time students who are children of police officers, firefighters, and paramedics in the cities of Bay Village, North Olmsted, Westlake, Lakewood, Rocky River, and Fairview Park.
Eligibility: Applicants are limited to graduating and graduated children of police officers, firefighters, and paramedics (first responders) in the cities of Bay Village, North Olmsted, Westlake, Lakewood, Rocky River, and Fairview Park, who plan to attend an accredited college, university, or vocational school on a full-time basis.

Selection process: A foundation-appointed selection committee shall choose the scholarship recipient(s). Scholarship awards are made on an evaluation of the student’s financial need, academic achievement, involvement in school and community activities, and work experience. The student’s family is expected to contribute to his or her support.
Award process: Award amounts and number of awards are based on the earnings of the fund and are determined by the selection committee. Award amounts have ranged from $500 to $2,600, and are generally the same amount for each recipient in a round. Awards are prorated over four years and paid bi-annually to the educational institution for the benefit of selected students. Awards are applicable to tuition, fees, books, supplies, and equipment required for courses. Formal notification of award will be made by the Cleveland Foundation to the selected recipient(s). Students must make normal progress toward a degree or certification and maintain at least a 2.0 GPA in each grading period in order to receive support for the succeeding grading period.
- Maintain full-time enrollment status and progress toward degree or certification
- Email a grade report to the Scholarship team for each term (min 2.0 GPA required)
- A thank you note to the donors and selection committee members for this fund is not required but always appreciated and may be sent via email.
