5,000 Acres of Opportunity

At the height of Cleveland’s industrial power, hundreds of factories employed tens of thousands of workers. Today, many of those same sites sit vacant and abandoned—5,000 acres of unused land, roughly the size of Shaker Heights.

The Site Readiness for Good Jobs Fund, created by the City of Cleveland in 2023, is turning this challenge into opportunity. By reclaiming and remediating brownfield sites, the fund will prepare land for new industries, attract jobs and spark growth in neighborhoods long affected by disinvestment.

The Cleveland Foundation is proud to partner in this effort by establishing an endowment for the Site Readiness Fund—ensuring long-term resources to transform our city for generations.

Why This Matters

Revitalizing Communities

Abandoned sites will be cleaned, secured and made ready for redevelopment.

Driving Economic Growth

Greater Cleveland remains a manufacturing hub, home to more than 270,000 jobs and 10,000 manufacturers. With job-ready sites, our region can attract new industries and seize emerging opportunities.

Investing for the Future

An endowment creates lasting impact—funding site preparation not just for today, but for decades to come.

“No single person, company, or organization can do this alone. But together, we can transform vacant land into thriving hubs of opportunity—work that will benefit our region for generations.”

Be Part of the Transformation

Cleaning up one brownfield site can cost up to $600,000. But collective giving makes the impossible possible. Every gift, no matter the size, helps prepare land for new industries, good jobs and a stronger Greater Cleveland.

Make your gift today and help reclaim 5,000 acres of opportunity.
