How I Spent My Summer: Takisha Williamson

zBlog Takisha Williamson Intern 2013This week’s professional seminar at the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Community Center truly lifted my awareness on the importance of diversity inclusion within a community and how it directly impacts the success of an organization’s programming and vision.

The executive director of the LGBT Community Center emphasized how essential it was for her to make the center a place for all people. As the morning went on, I realized the organization recently passed the beginning stages of a dynamic shift in their organizational structure. I admired the executive director’s ability to work closely with board members who share her vision of accessibility to all.

Listening to the story of the LGBT Community Center provided me with a clear understanding of how an administrator must create an environment of inclusion within the operational structure so that the organization’s vision can flourish externally.

Each week we use this space to give each of our interns a chance to reflect on their internship experiences.Takisha is a graduate student from the University of Akron. Placement: GroundWorks Dance Theater
