In this guest blog from College Now Greater Cleveland, learn how easy it is to mentor a local college student – and why it matters:

What if you could personally have a hand in breaking the cycle of poverty in Cleveland? It all starts with a relationship, two emails per month, and three meetings per year.

That’s how mentoring works with the College Now Mentoring Program. Join today and help a College Now or Say Yes to Education scholarship recipient starting next academic year.

Two women sit together and talk with one another at a coffee shop The College Now Mentoring Program is a groundbreaking program whose students graduate at nearly twice the rate of their peers nationally. Over the last eight years, the program has connected thousands of local students and volunteer mentors, all committed to the individual success of students, as well as the success of our region. College Now is proud to partner with Say Yes to Education and the Cleveland Metropolitan School District by providing mentors for Say Yes Cleveland scholarship recipients next academic year. With your help, we can ensure that the next generation of scholars from Cleveland successfully complete postsecondary education!

College Now connects mentors and students via an innovative online platform and offers proactive support to pairs throughout the experience. Mentors provide advice and guidance to students, many of whom are first in their families to attend college, and all of whom have demonstrated financial need.  There are no special requirements to mentor – anyone with a college degree and the desire to give back meaningfully can participate.

College Now Greater Cleveland seeks 900 mentors for its incoming freshmen class of 2019-2020 college scholarship recipients, including the new Say Yes to Education cohort. When you become a mentor, you join more than 1,000 other Cleveland professionals from over 400 employers working to change outcomes for individual students, break the cycle of poverty in Cleveland, and invest in our future workforce. Be someone who matters to someone who matters – mentor!
