On April 5, The George Gund Foundation announced the inaugural gift of $1 million to the Cleveland Metropolitan School District Arts Education Fund, in honor of Ann Gund as she retired from The Gund Foundation’s board.

The Cleveland Metropolitan School District Arts Education Fund is a new donor advised fund here at the Cleveland Foundation that was established to catalyze much-needed private investment in arts education in Cleveland schools. In a city known for its arts and cultural assets, the fund will help expand access to high-quality arts education across the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. Programs like the All-City Arts program and arts-themed elementary and high schools are already available in the district, but this fund will boost resources for arts education that have been depleted over the years due to tight budgets as well as state and federal testing requirements; the fund will help to pay for musical instruments, rights to plays and music, theater and film equipment and more.

During her 30 years of service on The Gund Foundation board, Ann Gund has been a champion for high-quality arts education. This inaugural $1 million gift is a tribute to her, and it will have a big impact on the opportunities available to Cleveland students.
